Being hailed the "future of Christian pop" in 2008, Texan singer/songwriter Josh Wilson has tried to live up to that billing by having hits with "Savior Please" and "Before The Morning" on Billboard's Christian Songs chart. If you're familiar with the work of Steve Curtis Chapman and enjoy the sounds of people like Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson, then you'll appreciate this album. Without doubt the production on this album is top notch with Josh Wilson's voice centre stage. The album opens with "Before The Morning' with its snazzy guitar work and catchy vocal hook, while the intro to "Listen" is reminiscent of early Rolling Stones. The standout track on the album has to be "Beautiful Like This", which has you prodding the repeat button for another listen, just to make sure you heard it right the first time. The more intimate "Something's Got To Change" has that end of gig feel to it and really should have been the last track on this album. However, the final track is an awkward instrumental rendition of "Amazing Grace", which has all the marks of an album filler rather than a worthwhile reworking of an over familiar tune. But overall, this is an album that's well worth a listen.
