Now here's a novelty - a privately released CD that is real value for money - 21 tracks and 72 minutes long. Jube are based in Worthing, just down the road from ICC Studios, where 'Elation' was recorded in 1997. The band is in many ways a South Coast version of World Without End, in that they mostly play a bright Britpop, although they've got a little way to go to catch up with Norfolk's finest as regards technique and quality of songwriting. The sound is a bit thin, which is down to their using an acoustic rhythm guitar, and although there's a good beat on most songs, the overall mix is rather flat and dull, even though the lead guitar comes over quite strongly. Some of the vocals are a bit tentative, others are a tad off pitch, and despite the proliferation of songs, most are quite ordinary. Enthusiasm and energy can make up for a good few deficiencies in technique, but a so-so song is a so-so song, even when sung by the best in the business.
