Now I know it says much about the weird lifestyle and tastes of a 53 year old Christian music magazine editor that playing this record at 9.45 on a Sunday morning can produce a response from his bleary-eyed, duvet-bedecked teenage son bursting into the front room of, "It's too loud!!" But such ironies do indicate to you, dear reader, something of the aural impact and relentless noise making direction of this new trio from the States. I loved "Awaken" with its blistering riffs and the dynamics between sung and shouted passages as the lyric incisively examines the paradoxes of the Christian life ("Never will I live my life again in fear/Died to my flesh yet my flesh is still here"). I also went for "9 Outta 10" with its bawled declaration to the lust and sin of our lives, "you don't own me!" Sonically thrilling hard rock with a strong spiritual message.
