If a device could be invented that transmogrified sunshine into music, it would come out sounding like this! Abraham Laboriel is probably the best bass player in the world - he's certainly the most anointed! In the 70s he played on all those classic recordings by Keith Green and later turned up in Andrae Crouch's band. Almario and Laboriel are best known these days for their work with Integrity, most notably Ron Kenoly's albums. In fact this release contains a stupendous jazz version of "God Is Able" with Almario's soaring sax to the fore. At times this sounds like Koinonia and I have no complaints about that! The musical influences are broad and you get a bit of calypso ("Righteousness, Peace And Joy") and elsewhere there's a Latin feel in places and even one gorgeous piece with a string quartet! Almario's woodwind soloing is sheer class (eat your heart out, Kenny G!) and Laboriel's bass playing, whether keeping a rhythm or soloing, has a fluidity that is sublime. (By the way, sometimes there's barely a difference! Check out "Celebrate Jesus" - seriously funky maaan!) Moody and magnificent music like this should be available on the National Health! Go on. Take some, you know it's good for you.
