Although there are four or five other musicians contributing on this CD for the most part it is Welsh Kath's wistful vocals and elegant piano that are firmly at the forefront. The production style is kept clean and simple so that attention is kept on the thoughtful, sensitive and well written lyrics. On first hearing the names that sprang to mind as a comparison were those of '90s singer/songwriters Beverly Craven and Tori Amos. Whilst Kath's haunting voice is perfect for this type of music its frailty and lack of range mean that after few tracks one song tends to merge into another and you find yourself wanting Kath to maybe try a different direction. Having said that there is some variety when Kath sings some of the tracks in Welsh though given that one of the assets on this CD is the depth of the lyrics I'm not really sure that that helps non-Welsh speakers like me. Overall then a great album to listen to in small doses but its lack of variety pulls it down a bit.
