Kay (who sings with a backing group called Jewels, which is also the name of her record label) is originally from the Bahamas but now resident in Canada. This dual national identity is evident in her music, which draws its influences from both the Caribbean and (with slightly less success) North American. 'Armageddon' is a variable showcase of popular Caribbean music, featuring reggae ('The Stone', the title track), soca/calypso ('Satan Time Expire', 'Shake The evil Off') and - and Im not having a go at the Supertones et al in saying this - real ska ('He's Coming Again'). The songs might sound a bit too preoccupied with Hell and tribulation for some listeners' comfort - but what else would you expect from an album titled 'Armageddon', anyway?
