Sometimes it's easy to get cynical about media hype when it comes to new artists. Have you noticed that every new singer is the best thing since, well, since the last new singer? But here we have an undeniable new talent and take if from me, Kelli Williams is going to be big Big BIG! A mature voice combines here with the smooth soul production that you'd normally associate with veterans like the Winans family. This debut release has been causing quite a stir amongst the Yanks and quite right too! This is vocal talent with bells on! And what makes it even more remarkable? She's just 17 years old! Obviously all those years singing in the church choir paid off when you listen to the way she handles the pure pop soul of "Thank You" or "Never Alone". Then you find out she's just as comfortable tackling a ballad like "Counting On You" with its dramatic orchestral opening. There's a beautiful soul rendition of the classic song "People Need The Lord" which shimmers with passion. Definitely planting two feet in the gospel soul camp, this album makes me think I have heard the future of gospel music and her name is Kelli Williams!
