Opener "Sunrise" is in fact wistful, perfect folksy pop from the Sheffield duo who inhabit the territory of the likes of Grant Lee Buffalo and Counting Crows. Singer Jo Davies has one of those voices that is impossible to describe, but which sounds comfortable and well lived-in, and it complements the music perfectly. Tracks like "Tightly" would work well on radio in a Caedmon's Call sort of way. Good stuff for sitting under a tree in summertime, reading Tolkein. Oh, and by the way, the titular Monster can be found in Isaiah 27:1, so check it, and this CD out.
