Based in Northern California, Lawrence Beaman records independently and one listen to this reveals that he is gifted with a rich voice and a solid songwriting talent. This is inspirational gospel so what it lacks in R&B funkiness it makes up in soul and melody! This fuses gospel sensibilities with inspirational styles to create music that is able to transcend black and white church and Lawrence seems determined to inspire and encourage the listener with this selection of songs. And it works! The title cut is a gentle ballad reminding us of the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. He's managed some impressive collaborations! "His Love Amazes Me" was co-written with the legendary Andrae Crouch and is neatly segued with Newton's equally legendary hymn "Amazing Grace". The album closes with a gorgeous ballad "You Are", a song co-written with respected producer Narada Michael Walden. "Forever In My Heart" pays tribute to 9/11 victims which is fair enough but "Freedom" is a little too much about the American way rather than the Prince Of Peace. That grates on these British ears! But it's only a small quibble. Otherwise Lawrence has done a decent job here.

We were under the impression that Lawrence died in July this year.
So sad.
