This is the white goateed worship pastor's 11th solo album, from a career lasting over 30 years now. For most of that time he has been based in Alabama, where this release was recorded live. There are perhaps more rock influences in this collection than previous ones, providing a more powerful and dynamic backdrop to Lenny's skilled song writing. The more regional country-soul and southern R&B influences are there too, adding more variety to the mix. The opening "Ascend" is a belter, co-written by Lindell Cooley (of Pensacola revival fame), and paves the way to a string of powerful and memorable songs such as "Walls Come Down" and "The Rain". "Holy" truly captures the feelings of wonder and glory often felt in the presence of God, but unfortunately leads into a series of more sentimental songs that show up the less masculine side of Lenny's voice (though it does make him sound younger)! The album lifts again before it's over though, and the song crafting can only be admired: intelligent songs of worship with a faultless and colourful backing band.
