Leeds-based Liz has provided vocals for a number of albums and now has put her considerable songwriting and singing talents to use on her own album. 'Release' is described as chillout worship and it is all of that and wears its heart in plain sight on its sleeve. The opening synth chords and drumbeat set the scene well and Liz's vocals paint beautiful pictures over chilled grooves. There is wonderful variety here from the chilled opening "Satisfaction" through the upbeat "Watches Over His Word" to the exquisite blues of "Awesome God" - a stunning piano-led jazz blues worship song with a trumpet line that will bring tears to the eyes. While the slower songs seem to suite Liz's voice better there is nothing to let the side down, and with Bible verses given in the sleevenotes for each song this album is sure to inspire worship and is without doubt nicely chilled. In an age when so many worship projects adopt a limited stadium rock approach 'Release' is nothing short of revolutionary.
