Recorded in response to a request from Operation Christmas Child, Long Time Truth deliver a five-track selection of Welsh hip-hop. LTT are actually MC Sneeze and Tha Pastor Reach Yeah and have done some gigging in London, Chester and their home territory of Wrexham. I am presuming that the duo come over better in a live context than in this limp offering. It's very difficult for British rappers to really sound convincing and at least this lot don't actually succumb to the temptation to put on American accents, but Welsh accents? Hmmmm. Some of this shouldn't really have got past the quality control department. The supposed standout track is the opener "Thank You" which is meant to be deep and meaningful outlining the plight of suffering children but listening to this, it's actually me that's doing the suffering. Come on guys! It's a cute idea to get a couple of kids to sing the little "thank you" refrain but it is sooo out of tune that it's impossible to really concentrate on anything else in the song. While "Take Up Your Cross" and "Keep The Faith" are designed to be radical and spiritually impacting, there is little that is original in either the verbal skills or the monotonous backing so it all ends up sounding a little flat. The inventive sample from "Hotel California" gives "It's Like." a bit of a creative lift but ultimately it's the lack of hooks that leaves this EP in the doldrums. The guys need to go back to the drawing board and consider what needs to be done to give their rhymes a bit of Welsh welly to get across more memorably. Let's hope the final cut "You Ain't Going Nowhere" isn't prophetic.
