I have always loved the Lost Dogs' stuff. This time we get the first part of a duo of albums (second one released around September) with the usual quality associated with Messrs Roe, Taylor, Eugene and Daugherty, but alas, gone is so much of the fun found on their previous discs. Yeah, there are still some great moments such as the rock 'n' roll doo wop love song "Close By No Cigar" and another classic God-centred track "Reasonable Service", but the Dogs seem to have gone serious for this recording. Having said that, I still enjoyed some great cuts such as "Hey, You Little Devil", "Sweet Work Of Love" and a reworking of their classic "Breathe Deep" (although I prefer the original). Still a class act, but for me the Dogs always made me listen and smile... This time I just listened.
