Whilst London-based hip-hop artist MC Tempo recently became the talk of the town when he released "Baa Baa Black Sheep" (a musical response to former fellow sanctified rapper Jahaziel's very public denouncement of Christianity), this five-track EP sees the veteran wordsmith shine the spotlight firmly back on God. Containing an overriding theme of worship in both a lyrical and musical sense, Tempo uses his laid back half spoken, half sung delivery to tell of God's character to the backdrop of some fairly straightforward dance grooves. Cases in point include the opener "Dynamite" which tells of the artist's longing to harness God's power in his life whilst the auto-tuned "The Lion" sees Tempo in worship mode on a track that highlights the might and meekness of the Lord. Whilst the easy pace of this release works well for the most part, the somewhat plodding "Rescuer" does feel distractingly slow resulting in an uncharacteristically hesitant performance from the main man but the inclusion of an augmented version of the Hillsong United megahit "Oceans" and the freeform and lengthy "Holy Spirit" - complete with praying in tongues - makes Tempo's latest offering a worthwhile and uplifting listen.
