The sound of blues guitar and whining harmonica conjures up 12-bar rhythm in it's own inimitable style. On this album Darrell Mansfield and Eric Turner pay their own dues to black gospel, following on from Darrell's widely acclaimed earlier collaboration with Glenn Kaiser of Rez. Darrell mentions in the sleevenotes that these tracks were laid down in just one or two takes, playing them from the heart, and that's how the album comes across. You get the feeling that these guys have just come into your house, plugged in and started recording. The results are pretty good with the opener "Million Dollar Feelin" the best of the set - an epic, nearly seven minutes long blues classic. Covers of "Stand By Me" and Curtis Mayfield's legendary "People Get Ready" are well put across as is Little Walter's "Blues With A Feelin'". They've chosen ten tracks for the album of which six come off, not bad for first or second takes. If you like your blues in laid-back, relaxing style then this is for you.

This is an addend to a previous comment. I need to clarify that Man Alive was nationally syndicated from 1975-1984. From 1982-1984 we were operating XERF and aired nightly. But we continued the show on a smaller scale from 1992-1996. It was then that we were using the "Blues with a Feeling" CD, covering Atlantic City and later Philadelphia. At any rate, it is an exciting album to listen to.

My first husband, Mike Venditti (with the Lord now) and I used to play several of the cuts from this exceptional Christian blues album on a nationally syndicated contemporary Christian music program called "Man Alive!" (1975-1984) We loved it. What gifts the Lord has given the church! Mansfield-Turner is among them. It's a great album... full of spirit and soul.

This is one of the best blues albums ever. Unfortunately I gave my CD to somebody as a going away present a few years ago and I can’t find another copy.
