Marc is, of course, best known as the main man of British blues rockers Verra Cruz but he has always made clear his passion for worship-orientated music. After numerous contributions to Vineyard UK projects James released his first solo album, the mostly acoustic and rather excellent 'King Of Glory; King Of Grief', in 2006. His latest album 'Surrender' is a little less stripped back than 'King Of Glory. . .', the guitars are more direct, the amplifiers turned up a touch louder and the drumming a little heavier. Overall, it's a bit more rock and this suits Marc's gritty vocals very well indeed. Opening track "I Worship You Now" is a lively pop rock song with a memorable hook as is "Great Is Your Faithfulness" which deserves a special mention for its lucid guitar work. The title track is another highlight - a classy worship number from Marc's Vineyard days which you may already be familiar with. Fans of the stripped back approach needn't fear though; "Jesus Your Love Is All I Need" is a sweet acoustic number passionately delivered by Marc in his distinctively gruff style. 'Surrender' is a fine album that is bold enough stand out in a crowded marketplace.
