Mark's group 4Him could almost be called the original Christian music boyband. But what does an accomplished group singer do when he gets to be a man? Do a solo record! Mark Harris has carved out a pretty good career peddling this kind of glossy, inspirational pop music with 4Him that seems to be huge in Christian circles in the USA but which leaves us Brits wondering what all the fuss is about. Yes, Mark is a good singer. Yes, the album is beautifully produced. Yes, the songs are professionally written with Mark co-writing with producer Peter Kipley and a few other respectable Nashville-based writers. But somehow Mark doesn't manage to create the same spark as his 4Him recordings where perhaps the sum of the parts is greater than the individuals involved. This is all sparkly upbeat numbers and power ballads that have worthy lyrics. But ultimately it left this reviewer cold. He's trying really hard but it isn't working.
