'More Of Him' is the debut release by a Utah-based rapper. Born in 1970 Markilo's life story is one of God's saving grace and this shines through on this. It opens with the gospel-infused hip-hop beats of "Serve The Lord", followed by the dark funk of "Get Jesus" where Markilo's rapping is reminiscent of Warren G or Tupac Shakur. The album continues apace with the India Arie sounding "Can't Make Me Doubt Him" with guest vocalist Chalice Phillips whose vocals sound not too dissimilar to Lauryn Hill with a powerful melody and harmony range that positively lifts the tone of the song. Elsewhere, "1 Cross+3 Nails=4Giveness" brings to mind 'Free At Last' era dc Talk as Markilo raps about God's forgiveness found at the cross. This debut puts Markilo in a league above many other of his contemporaries within the Christian hip-hop field. Lyrically he has a real gift for turning his life story into something positive, focussing on God's love and forgiveness rather than negative experiences that have affected his journey so far. This is an excellent collection of melody drenched hip-hop.
