I have Mike Rimmer to thank for introducing me to this exciting new Memphis based band with the lead singer, chief songwriter who hails from, of all places, the Faroe Islands. Marstin And The Revelators have a sound which defies easy pigeon holing sounding to me a bit like an off kilter blues rock outfit colliding with a deranged version of The Pogues. Their gloriously shambolic sound is perfect for a lead singer who shouts, snarls and talks his way through dazzlingly original songs based on such Bible tales such as The Fall Of Man ("The Apple Song") and The Life Of Samson ("Lion & The Bear"). The fourth song on this truly arresting EP is "People Get Ready" and thankfully isn't another version of the over-recorded Curtis Mayfield oldie but an apocalyptic original.
