Reviewed by Alastair McCollum Marty Goetz has been described as a "modern day Psalmist" and as a gifted songwriter and musician, this is undoubtedly true, but on this Christmas collection I think the best description for him might be "Contemporary Cantor". With Jewish roots, and influenced both musically and theologically by that background, Marty brings alive traditional Christmas and Chanukah songs with his re-interpretations of many well known songs and carols. Working with long term collaborator, producer, pianist and Jesus music pioneer Tom Howard these songs are beautifully set and sung with Marty's clear tenor voice riding over lush orchestral and choral arrangements. There are moments with echoes of Neil Diamond's 'Jazz Singer' in Goetz's vocals, not that this is a bad thing, more of a reflection of Diamond and Goetz's shared heritage in the Synagogue. It is a beautiful easy listening record, a great celebration of Christmas, of our Christian faith and music, and the Jewish faith from which our Messiah came. Highly recommended.

Every year they come around. Christmas! Chanukah! Though these are very different holidays, they have two amazing things in common: Music and Light!
Though growing up with the music of Chanukah, Messianic Psalmist Marty Goetz always enjoyed the music of Christmas.
Now, as a Jewish believer in Yeshua (Jesus) he loves singing them both. Join Marty as he sings the traditional songs of Christmas and Chanukah with a Messianic emphasis.
Also enjoy several of Marty’s beautiful songs celebrating the birth of Jesus, the King of Kings, the Messiah of Israel. We invite you to enjoy both of these Festivals of Light. |
