'Shalom' continues the good work begun in 'Is Gewejn A Folk', starting at the 17th century and tracing emigration experiences. Track 1 is a furious dance "Lower East Side" followed by the contrasting "Chassidic Prayer", an invocation of God with a melody probably 2000 years old. The holocaust songs are of course stark and dark but important. "Kol Dodi" ("My Master's Voice") dates back 3000 years, lyrics from the Song Of Songs. This is a valuable and well-researched project, with fine musicians playing from the heart. Highly recommended, a true labour of love.
