In Canada singer/songwriter Brouwer has won two GMA Canada Covenant Awards and in 2010 a JUNO Award though, it seems, such status wasn't sufficient for a record company to finance an album. So, as is happening increasingly in these financially troubled times, Matt, now based in Texas, has turned to his fanbase through Kickstarter to underwrite the costs of his new album, which by my reckoning is his sixth. I'm delighted to report that his loyal supporters haven't been short-changed, in fact this could well be the singer/songwriter's best ever work. The themes of the album are love, commitment and community with several songs clearly shaped by his recent marriage including the title track where the songsmith captures the thrill and expectancy of his new beginning with Hannah and the eternity and promise he feels when gazing at an Hawaiian skyline. Other equally strong cuts are "Everlasting", a call to worship based on Psalm 139; the country-tinged "Thornside" where a musical tale of a fictional town reminds us that God's grace is sufficient despite our thorns in the flesh; and "Love Can Find A Way" co-written with the always wonderful JJ Heller and with the lady adding her vocals to Matt's warm tones. Throughout, production is what one critic has called "pristine". So if you're looking for thought-provoking reflections of love and faith, skilfully executed by a mature songsmith 'Till The Sunrise' is one to search out.
