If you're a frequenter of the smaller tents at Cross Rhythms past you may have encountered Matt plying his trade with an acoustic guitar and a gutsy blues rock voice. But Mr Finnish is no fresh faced beginner but a music biz veteran who, years back, experienced Top 20 success. Now he offers his debut Christian project and thoroughly engaging it is too, with an eclectic range of styles from retro old time boogie rock on "Your Will Not Mine" to the Randy Newman-tinged "Father God". My favourites are the poignant acoustic ballad "Wait For Me" and the eerily haunting piece of funky prog rock "Waterfall". With an excellent, lived in voice and a superior lyricist's winning way with image and metaphor, this is a record of a man whose faith has been caught in the crucible of pain and trial and whose art has matured and deepened as a result.
