The promo blurb promised a challenging debut album from this Bristol-based six-piece contemporary worship band. Maybe it's because I've been so impressed by another debut album from a Bristol group, steve, with all its stunning production values, that frankly this one fails to excite. Mercy's sound is not distinctive enough to captivate the hearer, although the words are well intended. Having said that, the album has its moments. The slowed-down "On My Knees" and "In The Stillness" are probably the pick of the bunch for me. But my two unimpressed teenage daughters left me wondering who would buy this CD other than friends and family. I am sure that Mercy's main calling is as a live worship band. Maybe they were a little premature in releasing an album.
