Canadian fans have had access to Michael's music for a while, but this CD introduces his ministry to an international audience. Given Ion Records' links with Vineyard, it is no surprise to find that this sound is very Vineyard-esque. However, a closer listen reveals Michael's ability to write some very memorable and individual songs. Of particular note is the simple yet effective "Your Kingdom Come" which takes a few lines from the Lord's prayer and repeats them throughout the song. Michael writes in the sleevenotes of this coming in a spontaneous moment of worship and it is pleasing to see the temptation to over complicate the recorded version has been resisted. Interestingly, this album features an early song of Michael's and one of his most well known, "Freedom Reigns". I actually think this is the weakest song on the album, which demonstrates just how far Michael's songwriting talents have progressed. This is an album that will take a few plays to fully appreciate, but it's certainly worth it.
