'In The Beginning' takes the listener from the time of creation with the opening "River Of Life" through a Christmas trilogy to songs about the generations to come and the work of the Holy Spirit. After a song about the Second Coming the album ends where it began with a backing track replay of the "River Of Life". Mike Gannon's bio is likely to be the most impressive that I will ever have the privilege of reading. At the tender age of 15 he was already a pro musician rubbing shoulders with the musical greats of the time. He is described as a musical perfectionist having paid his dues to both music and life. To cap it all, we are informed that Mike has the respect of his fellow musicians. What a pity that the lyrics in this collection are nowhere near as eloquent as his publicity material. It would be great if the music truly reflected the professional expertise mentioned earlier. We all have to start somewhere but this sincere and tuneful album bears little resemblance to the accompanying blurb. How I wish that it did.
