As far as I'm concerned, the gospel community should be profoundly thankful for siring the most talented family in contemporary gospel. But as for giving them recording contracts as a token of appreciation, let alone buying their distinctly average debut CD in sufficient quantities to get it nominated for some gospel award or other, I have to raise a feeble voice of protest. The truth is Mom and Pop have ordinary singing voices; Pop in a holler-'em'-down James Cleveland style and with Mom, some nice touches but with pitching just beginning to waver. The songs here come mainly from the family Winans (surprise, surprise) and producer Patrick Henderson tries to bring a contemporary edge to an old fashioned storefront whoop-up style but it often falls uncomfortably between traditional and contemporary. A very average album.
