This lady first came to my attention following 'The River' at Greenbelt a few years back. There she performed Nina Simone's "My Baby Just Cares For Me". The first impression was of a genuinely relaxed jazz vocalist. On this, astonishingly only her second fully fledged album, Nanette further enhances that feeling without ever making you think you're listening to anything remotely classic. Gentle stuff throughout. Lots of messages - "Stay Close To Your Heart" did the business for me. Just a little lacking in that something-extra-to-offer department for the lady to break it big. Fits into the Beverley Craven/Tanita Tikaram range of popular UK singers. Possibly needs a sharper production, or maybe one big song to bring her talents fully to the fore but a pleasurable experience nonetheless. Not a top-liner, but useful makeweight.
