Reviewed by Tom Lennie That there's an (over-?)abundance of quality fresh worship songs pouring into the UK Church is apparent from the fact that this is volume six of a series begun by Kingsway only in 2004 (and more volumes are still to follow). The 12 tracks on the present disc - all brand spanking new - originated mainly, though not exclusively, within the UK and include two contributions from each of the prolific Paul Oakley, Tre Sheppard (of Onehundredhours) and Hillsong, Australia. Then there's the opening "Arise For The Glory Of The Lord", written by Ireland's Johnny Parks, which is especially compelling. Indeed, virtually every track is appealing. Only four, however, are in the up beat, anthemic category; most are of the soft-pop or gentle worship type, but all invite genuine adorational participation. Of course, being a studio-session recording, there is that slightly "sterile" sound common to this type of output, but the overall sound is surprisingly full-bodied and passion-laden. Sadly, worship musicians aren't named, but it's clear on several tracks that Simon Goodall is making his fine, melodic presence felt. This series is intended primarily for worship leaders, and full lyric sheets, charts and scores are available for immediate printing. The quality of these dozen songs certainly suggests that the modern worship scene is far from having run out of steam.
