Kingsway's latest release in the series intended to flag down the interest of local church worship leaders by showing what their roster of worship songsmiths have been up to recently. "We Come To Be With You Today" by Gareth Robinson stands out, albeit the arrangement is as important as the song. Some worship songs rely on a repetitive phrase, the song has to be arranged to engage the congregation or risk becoming tedious to them. Other standouts are by old reliable Chris Bowater with "Magnificent", here sung by a gentle female alto vocal (muso credits are exasperatingly left off the packaging for this series); Andy Bromley has two songs on here, both credible and worthy of having a crack at, especially "Your Name"; the underrated Godfrey Birtill has a sweet song with the slightly tongue twisting title of "Come O Spirit Of The Fear Of The Lord"; Mark Tedder (the American you read about recently in Cross Rhythms) has a song sub-titled "We Are The People Of God", which has a rousing chorus and could work well in the right church; while "None Other" by Geraldine Latty goes against the grain of current worship songs with its samba rhythm. 12 tracks which plenty of local church worship leaders will want to investigate.
