Another UK summer conference recording (get the T shirt!), but very uplifting nonetheless. Andy and Bryn lead an enthusiastic congregation in choruses of staple Vineyard fare, with a sprinkling of newer titles. Some folks sniff at the genre, but I find this setting easily the best for the material. The mantle of praise covers the whistles, coughs and other intrusions, and this recording eclipses the "souvenir only" quality all too familiar to many. Choruses are typically realised by expressive vocal harmonies supported by driving 12 string guitar, but sadly Bryn bursts into only one brief bottleneck solo (though a sight more inventive than that on the comparable Vineyard version). The most moving songs are penned by Brian Doersken: his "Psalm 121" sparkles like a gem. I hope we will hear more from him in future.
