It was of course 'Woven & Spun' which catapulted Nichole into the US big time and on this new set, her fourth studio album, she again shows herself to be a fine songwriter and emotionally gripping singer. Unlike 'Woven & Spun', which relied heavily on piano dominated accompaniments, this new set features layers of instrumental backing conceived by producer Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, The Wallflowers). From the warm, poppy opener title track to the contemplative "Lay It Down" and even the unexpected trippy beats of her cover of Bob Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody" this is beautifully conceived and executed pop with plenty of insight and maturity in the lyrics. It will no doubt sell very well and deserves to.
