Plymouth-based One Big City are a new outfit with their hearts set on evangelism. This four track EP acts as a calling card to introduce you to their musical wares. It starts promisingly enough with the vocal interaction between singers Sandy Franklin and Clive Martell and a riproaring guitar and keyboard riff fest leading into a catchy chorus. The band's opening signature tune "One Big City" is the best thing here because they soon go all mellow and acoustic. A harmonica toots and suddenly it's the late '70s but this sort of retro isn't cool! "Oh My Lord" is an okay song but the band need to rethink their musical stylings unless they're trying to reach over 40s! The title cut is again acoustic and more like a worship tune proving that these guys can pen effective songs. Again, I have questions about the style the band have adopted. The closing cut "Harvest" picks things up a little with a song focused on revival. These guys can play and sing and write but the fact that this entire EP sounds like it could have been recorded over 20 years ago makes me think that One Big City need to do some deep thinking about who they want to evangelise and create a more modern sound.
