Despite the footy-derived title, this has nothing to do with France '98 nor the FA Cup (what a relief). Instead, it's a five song demo EP/mini album from the Dublin-based rockers of the same name. Dedicated to the memory of guitarist Paul Stephens (1976-96), who actually makes a posthumous appearance on the tape, O@ 1/2T kick off with the pared down Celtic-tinged rock of "Mist Turns To Rain". At a guess, Irish rockers Horslips (remember them anyone?) could be an influence here, but of course other well known bands also hail from Dublin's fair city. As they move on "Stress" is, appropriately enough, frenetic in tone while "Waiting For Heaven" is both more expansive in sound and slower in pace. "Come To Your Light" is a chunky blues number with some tasty guitar work and rounding it off is the flute/acoustic guitar-backed "I Miss You", a song reminiscent of Martyn Joseph's early ballads. That's quite a pot pouri of styles, and there's some decent musicianship on display too, but somehow the songs lacked the spark to enthuse me. Perhaps with a little more focus they'll hit upon the right formula next time round.
