It has to be said, we're used to getting a few left field CDs here at Cross Rhythms Towers but this CD had Admiral Cummings and myself scratching our heads wondering who would make an album like this! Answer? A bunch of loopy Christians with a sense of fun and the gall to perform these songs in local pubs and clubs. Definitely not to be taken seriously, this is Latin rhythms, cheesy cheap syth sounds and a decidedly lo-fi production. Otis is the lead singer and delivers a Barry White sized egotistic vocal style (not sure if a Barry White style tummy goes along with this) interacting with suitably girlie backing vocals. Latin influences pop up here and there and overall it's just a good laugh. If you enjoyed the weirder moments recorded by the late great Frank Zappa, you'll get this! My favourite has to be the ridiculously cleverly titled "Yes Sir, I Can Mambo" with its squeaky chorus and slimy lead vocals. Production quality is not really there with a lot of this sounding like it came from an old synth! But then this is so weird, who cares? If you want to download MP3 files, a lot of the songs here can be found at www.mp3.com/otispfunkmeyer.
