Like many Rhinelanders I have amused myself by compiling my own compilations from the 12 previous releases over the last 15 years. Now it is possible to listen to Karin and Linford's own selection and, unlike my choices, this one comes with thoughtful notes and the usual excellent packaging. We get 15 tracks, six from the early days when Over The Rhine were a four-piece rock band, and nine of more recent vintage featuring husband and wife Linford Detweiler and Karin Berquist with assorted guests. Indeed the opening song is a new one: "Last Night On Earth Again" with its memorable opening line remembering a tour "down south where Elvis is king and Jesus is Lord". At the other end of the CD is the excellent "Like A Radio" from the first release, 'Til We Have Faces', a great song from a remarkable debut album. Other favourites - the ones that make it onto my own collection of favourites - are "The World Can Wait" and "All I Need Is Everything" which sums up my dilemma: there are too many good songs that have not made it onto this collection but I suppose it is being greedy to ask for a double so I will have to keep on making my own compilations.
