Reviewed by Alex Figgis With two albums and two EP's already to their credit, Overcome are no strangers to the hard music scene. One time labelmates with the likes of Living Sacrifice, Warlord and Zao, Immortal...' is the band's debut album for Facedown. Blending the very best of metal and the more modem trends found within the hard-music scene, Overcome's sound is best described as being metalcore, where the band's music has more to do with heavy rhythms than punk bravado. Immortal..,' is sufficiently well produced and arranged as to expose the band's technical and progressive nature. Take, for example, the brooding, atmospheric "Child's Dead Dream", which gradually builds in tension until finally erupting into a barrage of intensity and groove-orientated power chords at the hands of Ovsak, Westby and Brooks; or the multi-layered "Equilibrium", clocking in at just over seven minutes. Immortal...' is slightly marred, however, by the inclusion of "Reverence". Though superb musically, the piece is ruined in my opinion by Stinson's ill fitting vocal delivery, which is screamed over the top. This slight niggle aside, Overcomes latest release is well worth a spin.
