Reviewed by Trevor Kirk A new gospel outfit to this reviewer, this particular pastor, when not fronting his church's choir, is answering calls to the White House where he's one of the Christian advisors who President Bush surround himself with. So what of the music here? Initial impressions are not good; one would expect the opening track of any album to come in with a bang, but track one here is inspirational rather than sensational. Things do improve somewhat by track three, after an excruciatingly cheesy slab of rabble rousing by Mr Caldwell, but even so, this doesn't really get moving till the start of track four, nearly 16 minutes into a 61 minute 34 second CD. Another problem I have is that there's a fair proportion of slow, almost MOR, material and much florid vocal pyrotechnics, mixed in with the uptempo stuff, so it's not a coherent or a consistent listening experience. Production is good on the whole, so, despite a tendency to over-egg the pudding, gospel fans might like to investigate, although be warned, the Tommies this ain't.
