I must give a mention to my mate Jim Devlin who handed me this tape, 'cause if it wasn't for him (a) I wouldn't have believed it and (b) I really wouldn't have believed it. Nevertheless, here it is in all its glory in my hi-fi and I must confess. I still can't believe it! There are some things that I never thought I'd ever hear in the English language...for example. "Honestly. Tony Cummings refused a second slice of cheesecake," or "The latest batch of new American kids records are fantastic!" But truly more bizarre than any episode of the X Files is...Pat Boone.in a Metal Mood! The veteran crooner belts out such croonable classics as "Another Thing Comin"' by Judas Priest. "No More Mr Nice Guy" by Alice Cooper, "Enter The Sandman" by Metallica and "Crazy Train" by O//y Osbourne. Yikes! Add to this rock anthems by Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen and ACDC and you've got yourself one seriously strange CD. Apparently Boone showed up at one very hip USA award ceremony wearing leather and chains which may have gotten some whoops from the audience but has effectively closed his US gospel tour - his regular fans didn't approve of his "conversion to heavy metal"! So if you've ever wondered what Pal Boone does down on the Lake Geneva shore line (apparently his mates carry Hare guns! Yep. you've guessed it - he docs a cover of "Smoke On The Water"!) or you've noticed yer granny humming Guns 'N' Roses' "Paradise City" don't worry about her, she's just bought Pat's new CD. Does this get '10' for courage on 1 for cheek is the question? This is the closest thing you'll get to "Something new under the sun." My head hurts!
