Boone emerged in the 50s as the acceptable, boy-next-door clean-cut American clean-teen alternative to that disgusting black music churned out by such as Little Richard, Fats Domino and even Elvis Presley. After that dodgy start he turned out to be a fine singer, with a warm, friendly voice that rendered such songs as "Friendly Persuasion" and "I'll Be Home" evergreen classics of the pop world. After troubled times, the book The Cross And The Switchblade changed his life and his Christian witness has been clear since, as you may have heard on a recent Pebble Mill, though the voice is getting a bit tired-sounding. No problems here though with this re-issue of tracks from two early 70s albums. The voice is at its mellow best, specially on "Now The Day Is Over" and "My God Is Real". 20 well-known standards given fully professional loving care.
