A novel approach to many of the well known carols which effectively manages the difficult job of making them sound fresh. Rudolf Lutz, one of Switzerland's top organists, plays many of the well loved Christmas hymns and songs on the organ of St Laurenz Church in St Gallen, Switzerland accompanied by Paul Plunkett on various trumpets and the cornet. Being a Swiss recording, the Alphorn also puts in a couple of appearances as well, but for the sake of European peace I won't comment on them. Sprinkled among the carol arrangements are a number of organ voluntaries with Christmassy themes which gives the recording some variety and musical depth.
