Paul Poulton's best album is re-mixed and re-released. This "Euro version" sees Paul adding new vocals and other bits and bobs to give the album a completely new feel. Paul is too good a song writer for the casual listener to be allowed to miss the wit, wisdom and creativity of his songs so the more up front vocal is definitely a move in the right direction! Having grown accustomed to the original album, I'm left with the impression that the musical changes by and large improve things by giving the songs more punch. Classics like "The English Way" and "Dizzy And Sick" now have a bigger sound to accompany the wry humour and "Nobody Can Help Me" has a groove to accompany Sonia Grant's gospelly bvs. To these ears, there's only one place where the remix disappoints and that's on "She Laughs In Her Dreams" where the original ethereal dreamlike atmosphere of the song seems lost in the new instrumentation. Shame really. Other than that small gripe, if you've never discovered the delights of one of Britain's hardest working grass roots artists, this is most definitely the place to start. 'Fallen People...' is packed with clever musical and lyrical touches from an artist who deserves wider recognition.
