Paul and Sharon Reid are associated with Christian Fellowship Church, Belfast, home base of Robin Mark, and Paul is an occasional keyboard player in Robin’s worship band. They are also a songwriting team, 11 of the 13 tracks on this generously filled CD (running time is 61 minutes) are their work, the other two being the old hymns “Trust And Obey” and “Breathe On Me Breath Of God”. So far, so good; but whilst their music is a pleasant listen, there’s a certain predictability in the songwriting stakes. This is because most of the themes covered have been done before: “Let The River Flow”, “For Such A Time As This”, “Teach Me” and “Hungry For You”, four of the first five songs on the album, cover well-trodden ground and don’t bring anything new to our understanding and appreciation of the underlying message contained in the Scriptures on which they are based. Their material is fine on a personal experience level and would work well in a concert or worship environment, but I can’t see much airplay beckoning, at least not on any radio station that has anything like a half-decent record library. I hope Paul and Sharon can be a little more adventurous for their next project and explore some new avenues of composition.
