It's best to overlook his appearance on the abysmal Jaci Velasquez 'Christmas' album, but Pete Orta is being touted as a hot talent Stateside. 'Born Again' is what you'd expect a dc Talk worship project to sound like, and nowhere more so than "Tomorrow's Sun", which has a similar feel to "Minds Eye" on 'Jesus Freak'. Scrutinising the credits reveals why - Chris Rodriguez ('Jesus Freak' session guitarist) is co-producer with Peter Kipley, mastermind of the 'Eterne' worship remix album. For contrast, elsewhere wailing guitars are set over a heavy rhythmic groove on "You Make Me Feel" and the anthemic title cut fuses Eastern influences with 1970's rock and pop. Pete Orta has great vocal chops in a Bryan Adams kind of way and he used to be a member of Petra. Is the Nashville big time beckoning? Watch this space.
