A re-issue of Petra's 1977 album. It's an intriguing piece of musical history. Voltz is just creeping into the band and guests on two songs. One of them, "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To Us" has been redeemed from the pit with Christian lyrics whilst retaining the anthemic chorus - the perfect vehicle to launch Voltz's vocal histrionics. A taste of things to come as Voltz adds a new dimension to the band still characterised by the ever present twin guitars. Elsewhere Hough and Hartman sing and the riff rules. Check out "Sally" for that genuine '70s sound. Time travelling back to the 90s - okay, so it does sound dated and the production sounds ropey in places to ears that are used to digital technology. But this album serves to show how Petra grew from humble musical beginnings into a band whose ministry has affected the lives of thousands of rock fans proving that God really did give rock 'n' roll to us. And if you're one of those fans, you'll want to hear where it all started!
