This Huddersfield 5-piece have added a further five tracks (hence completing an album length cassette) to a previous demo reviewed in CR30. Side one is the stronger as far as song quality goes. It's more rocky, akin to the modern rock of Hootie & Blowfish. Most of the songs on this side are quite good mid paced rock songs with some nice refrains and guitar work. The song "Choose This Day" however is quite weak in vocals and melody. Throughout the tape the lyrics are uncompromisingly Christian - perfectly summed up by the track "I Am Not Ashamed". I was always waiting for side two to really kick off with some of the rocky feel of side one, but it never happened. The opener on this side "My Son" I found had a particularly weak melody and was dated. The rest of the new songs on this side are quite slow, often lacking in quality melodies and dragged a bit. I get the feeling they are trying to force the lyrics of Ps 13 into the tune for track three and the lyrics for track four are simply bland. The closing song is the best of the newies - a short, punchy worship chorus. I encourage all who hear of Pilgrim to hurry along and catch them live at a gig.
