Sometimes an unfamiliar musical form presents itself and announces that it requires patience and concentration if it is to yield up its treasure. This choir was formed in 1954 and has travelled to over 50 countries with its unique style of choral expertise. The music of this 24 strong, all-women group is based on the ancient Bulgarian church chant, influenced by early Byzantine culture. As such it bears comparison with the more familiar Gregorian chant, similar in stark beauty and intensity, more melodic, mainly acappella but with occasional folk music accompaniment. This is vibrant, stimulating choral music with a distinctive sound requiring immense skill,
