What do you get if you cross the World Wide Message Tribe with some US citizens who sing and dance? Raze of course! The disc is similar musically to the WWMT, being produced by Zarc Porter and written by various Tribe members. It is not challenging cutting edge experimental dance music, as musically it follows the Tribe's Eurodance/pop style. However, the point is it's not meant to be, as it is meant primarily to assist Raze's schools work in America. It is excellent schools ministry music, although I wait to see with considerable interest how their European dance style will translate into inner city America, where presumably this album is in part aimed. But in the UK it will surely go down a storm and with piles of infectious hooks and immediate rhythms a big following will surely be attracted to Raze. Several tracks stand out as being exceptional, such as the club mix of "I Need Your Love" (which is the only really club friendly song here), the future anthem dance song "Shine" which is the best song on the album and the mellow hip-hop track "Hold On", where Ja'Marc's rapping works the best. My one serious criticism is the very short length of this album. I'm sorry, but 36 minutes for a full length album is not good enough. Having spent $10,000 recording this album (See CR40) I expect the record company to give us at least an hour of music, especially as we are expected to pay Christian market prices for this album. But let's not be churlish, this is marvellous pop dance with enough radio potential to be a smash breakthrough album. Great band, excellent live and a great future for them.
