Well packaged in distinctive “redemption-red”, this three CD set of 60 hymns and gospel songs is dedicated to the hymnal that a generation or two ago was wonderfully inspiring and admired. But the sacred Pentecostal songs that made the book distinctive and were extensively sung in churches are missing. The Pentecostal songs of the hymnal were foundational to the modern charismatic hymns and contemporary choruses that followed them. Poorly compiled and executively produced, the songs here are merely the generic material found in most denominational collections or even Ira Sankey’s book, and the recordings gathered from a hotch potch of miscellaneous archive sources.
