This is the second album by Renewal Music - the aim of the series being to blend "textures of liturgy with the new songs of worship." I feel that on the whole it achieves this quite well though there's nothing just very exciting here. It's fairly gentle and totally acoustic, featuring soloists Jim Cowan and Tony Melendez, and a small choir. Around half the songs were written by worship leader Cowan. Other well known musicians appear - Carl Albrecht (percussion), Sam Levine (penny whistle) and veteran guitarist Tom Hemby, all guiding things along but only occasionally having prominence. The emphasis is the words, centering on Christ's sacrifice. The songs do indeed combine the old (many sound as if they could have been written centuries ago) with a contemporary feel. The inclusion of yet another version of "Shine Jesus Shine" though does seem a bit out of place here. An interesting collection probably more suited to those from a liturgical tradition.

Most of the songs on this album gives you a sense that the music was devinely inspired and other music pales in comparison. This is by far the best music I own and have listened to this album for ten hours non-stop.

The Cup of Life and Behold the Lamb are two of the most reverent worship CDs I own. They possess a depth that many worship CDs simply lack. I think what stirs me about these CDs is that the music seems to be an offering to Jesus, not meant to be entertainment for mankind. Everytime I listen my spirit is provoke to a deeper sense of awe of God and His glory!
